I started my Christmas shopping and so far have gotten my sister a copy of Pharaoh for the PC and my dad a new welding hat. His hat is so damn beat up it’s not even funny so I’m hoping I got the right size. I just went with a large so that should do the trick. Later I’m going to go in with my sister to buy him a record player to play around with. As for me I don’t really have anything to ask for aside from books since a 1TB HDD and a new video card is a bit expensive. I just asked for either money, books, or an ocarina (I figured it’d be something fun to play around with).
My sister came over earlier and we ordered some chinese from the China City down the street and man, that food is sooooo good. I ordered a pint of sweet & sour chicken and chicken & broccoli and it really filled me up. I love it because they pack the containers so full of food so I get two servings out of my order.
After I ate I watched a couple hours worth of Super Milk Chan then played TF2 and that’s how my day went.
I need to stop starting my posts with ‘so’.
So unlike last year, this year I finally decided to take part in No Shave November. I shaved on Saturday night last weekend and haven’t since. I’d got to say, it’s feels weird at first actually having facial hair since I’ve always shaved but I don’t really look all that bad with it. I’m not sure if I’ll keep it though. We’ll see how I look by the end of the month.
This is how I look currently:

So during Halloween weekend I went up north to visit my mom and hang out at the WoW house (Friends house in which the whole family plays WoW in one room. They always have friends over as well playing so at most there will be 7 people playing WoW in one small room). So I brought my PC with me and set it up to play Borderlands and League of Legends. I had a pretty decent time. On Saturday night I went out to the mall my sister works at and wandered around in costume. My costume being something I based off of a plague doctor since I don’t have $200 to commission a mask (they seriously wanted $200 for a mask…). It’s basically me in black leather shoes, black dress pants, a trench coat, formal white gloves, a fancy black cane with a silver ball top (ordered from Gentleman’s Emporium for $40), a GP-5 gas mask, and a black top hat which I rented from a local hat shop. So yeah, I wandered around with that on, got a lot of compliments from people as to how awesome it was, then before I left I sat around on a bench to catch up on me reading John Dies at the End which is a fantastic book so far.
When I got back home today my friend Sam asked if I would suck his dick and I declined saying that I didn’t really find him that attractive (I really don’t, sorry Sam).
So I’ve been playing Borderlands for the past two days and for the most part have been really enjoying it. The only problem I have is that I pretty much bought an unfinished game. So far I’ve had to tweak my game to disable mouse smoothing, enable vsync, disable the horrible voice chat (it’s constantly on like what you’d expect from a console game), enable scroll wheel in text boxes, and to make crouching momentary instead of toggle. On top of that it’s near impossible for me to join a public online game since whenever I try and go to the (listen) server browser my game freezes. Presumably because the game has a hard time listing the high amount of (listen) servers. So in order to remedy that I am only able to play online when I host a (listen) server.
It’s annoying but I’m dealing with it and waiting patiently for a patch.
So at the time of this post Steam says Borderlands is going to unlock in 4 hours. I don’t really get that. The whole Valve Time thing. Why not just wait until 12:00 AM PST and unlock it? I don’t really mind the wait, I just don’t understand why I should wait.
Oh and apparently Borderlands doesn’t have any obvious CD key. I don’t really get that, a multiplayer game with no CD key? First time I’ve seen this in a long while. From browsing /v/ it seems that pirates may actually be able to play online too which, once again, I’ve not seen in a long while. I mean, I guess there’s a good and bad side to that. The good side is that there’s more people to play with even though I have tons of people already that want to play with me. The bad side is that Gearbox might not get as much money, though since they released the console version first and did so with 2k games as their publisher they should have plenty of cash.
Oh well, we’ll see what happens. In the meantime I’ll probably watch some HTSF while waiting for my game to unlock.
So the Killing Floor update is great, they’ve really improved the game a lot. Now I’m able to heal other players without having to push right up against them and with the mp7 for the medic perk I can heal people from a distance by shooting healing darts at them. Sure it’s not that realistic but it’s fun and works. On top of that the new weapons are just what the game needed and the new demolitions perk is very fun.
I’m still trying to find three other people to get the 4 pack with so I can save $15 on Borderlands but it doesn’t look like that would be happening. If not then oh well, I’ll live.
So while waiting for Borderlands and the Killing Floor update to get released I decided to try out Risen and Dreamkiller. Now, Risen is a pretty good game, it’s not completely linear, it doesn’t have annoying quests, you can beat the shit out of most anyone you want. The only thing wrong with it is the combat. The combat relies on timing and guessing and not really skill. I mean, it’s tolerable but it’s not that great. At least it isn’t as bad as The Witcher’s combat system. Seeing that for the first time just made me uninstall the game.
So while Risen is okay Dreamkiller is mediocre. You get cliches, repetitive gameplay, and next to no real story. It starts off with the main character describing nightmares that she used to have as a little girl and somehow those nightmares enabled her to go into other people’s dreams and start killing things to cure them of their phobias. It really doesn’t make too much sense and what makes me mad about it is that during one part of the game the main character encounters a kind of monster that you have to kill or else it will keep summoning other monsters. She says something along the lines of, “oh great, a doorkeeper”. That kind of stuff just annoys me, I mean why bother even mentioning it if you’re not going to explain what it is? Why just assume that the player automatically knows these things? It’s stupid. Oh, and when I say repetitive gameplay I mean levels consist of you just going from room to room and killing variations of the same monster until you reach the boss, kill it, then move onto the next dream.
